UAE’s 40 Billion Euro Investment in Germany Puts Merz ‘Impressed’ with Major Economic Boost

Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz welcomed the multi-billion-euro investments announced by the United Arab Emirates in Germany. Merz stated on Friday that he was impressed by the UAE’s willingness to invest in Germany, calling it a “powerful signal” that would boost employment, competitiveness, and innovation.

The Sultan of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, officially unveiled this investment package during his state visit to Germany. The total commitment from the UAE is valued at 40 billion euros. These investments are set to flow into the country’s digital infrastructure, including the development of new data centers with a capacity of approximately 1 gigawatt.

Both Merz and Al Nahyan expressed support for plans to foster further investments and partnerships between businesses in the UAE and Germany, specifically mentioning initiatives involving companies such as Covestro, RWE, ADNOC, and Masdar.

Furthermore, the cooperation between the two nations will be solidified through a total of eleven agreements and declarations of intent between the respective governments. These agreements cover a wide range of areas, including artificial intelligence, data centers, transport rights, cooperation on crime and security, visa facilitation, foreign policy dialogue, cultural exchange, mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, and security and defense cooperation.
