Homeowners are once again increasing their investment in solar systems. According to the German Federal Association for Solar Economy, reports cited by Spiegel indicate that photovoltaic (PV) system installations in the residential sector rose by approximately 10% in the second quarter compared to the previous year.
This association attributes the growing demand to factors such as the conflict in Iran and recent government announcements detailing the phase-out of feed-in tariffs for solar power, which is scheduled to begin in 2027.
The trend saw a further acceleration in July, with residential roofs seeing 21% more PV systems installed than in the preceding year. Despite this localized surge, the overall figures for the first seven months of the year were slightly lower. While 2.72 gigawatts peak (GWp) of power production was installed this year in the residential segment, the figure for the same period last year was 2.79 GWp. Over the last two years, the rate of PV installation has dropped by about one-third compared to 2023, a period when extremely high energy prices had resulted in unusually strong demand.
