According to preliminary data released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the hospitality industry in Germany recorded an increase in turnover in July 2026. Compared to June 2026, the total turnover rose by 1.5 percent in real (price-adjusted) terms and by 1.3 percent in nominal (unadjusted) terms, after seasonal and calendar adjustments. However, when compared to the previous year’s month, July 2025, the real turnover declined by 4.0 percent, even as nominal turnover grew by 3.0 percent.
Analyzing the sectors revealed different trends. In the accommodation sector, including hotels and other lodging businesses, turnover increased by 1.4 percent in real terms and by 0.1 percent nominally when comparing July 2026 with June 2026. Regarding the year-on-year comparison with July 2025, this sector saw a real decline of 2.0 percent, coupled with a nominal increase of 2.9 percent.
The gastronomy sector also showed growth from the preceding month. Turnover rose by 1.6 percent in real terms and 1.7 percent nominally in July 2026 compared to June 2026. In the year-on-year comparison against July 2025, Destatis noted that while nominal turnover increased by 3.1 percent, real turnover experienced a decrease of 4.7 percent.
