Reiche Conditions Gas Price Cap on Supply Security and Preventing Price Abuse

Federal Minister of Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche (CDU) has stated that the introduction of a price ceiling for fuels is conditional. Speaking to the “Handelsblatt”, she emphasized that securing the supply chain is a high priority. Therefore, she stressed that guaranteeing uninterrupted supply must be a prerequisite before any price cap is implemented. Furthermore, Reiche insisted that such a ceiling should only be applied in cases of exorbitant or abusive price markups. The CDU politician also pointed out that Germany’s eleven domestic refineries enhance the country’s independence from foreign producers, a crucial factor that must not be jeopardized.
