Dax Rises on Optimism and Falling Oil Prices Amid Cautious Investor Sentiment

After a slightly negative start to trading on Tuesday morning, the Dax turned positive by lunchtime. As of approximately 12:30 p.m., the index measured around 25,670 points, representing a 0.4 percent gain compared to the previous trading day. The leading stocks in the index list included Zalando, Adidas, and MTU, with Allianz, Münchener Rück, and Hannover Rück finishing at the top.

Andreas Lipkow, Chief Market Analyst at CMC Markets, described the overall market activity as “largely directionless,” noting that investors were placing very selective bets on the potential for an economic recovery in Germany. Consequently, cyclical sectors such as consumer goods and mechanical engineering were particularly in demand.

Support for the market was also coming from the oil sector. Lipkow observed that hopes for a swift end to the conflict in Iran had already led to falling energy prices at the start of the week, a trend that continued into Tuesday. Brent crude fell below the psychologically important $100 mark. While this was initially viewed as good news for the stock market, Lipkow cautioned that this dip must evolve into a sustained downward trend to provide a stronger boost to the Dax. He added that this brief move was not enough to alleviate investors’ concerns about inflation.

Meanwhile, the European common currency was slightly weaker at midday; the Euro traded at $1.1461, while the Dollar was valued at 0.8725 Euros.
