The BSW (Bündnis Sahling-Wieland) party in Saxony-Anhalt intends to vote in favor of the AfD candidate for the position of State Parliament President. According to BSW State Party Chief John Lucas Dittrich, speaking to the Funke-Mediengruppe, “We know the colleague who is set to take on the office, and we can support him.”
However, the BSW faction plans to abstain from the vote for the State Prime Minister. When asked whether he could make this statement applicable to all five faction members, Dittrich confirmed, “Yes, I can say that for all five.” The number of abstentions was visible in the third round of voting, although local law dictates that only a simple majority is required during that final vote.
Dittrich also offered commentary on the timeline for government formation. “I believe the AfD itself does not yet know exactly what it wants,” he stated. “It probably needs several weeks to sort that out. Our impression is that different people at the federal and state levels are currently saying different things.”
