Henriette Held, Chair of the Green Youth, insists that the demands put forward in the electoral program must be incorporated into the government agreements following the election in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Speaking to the news portal T-Online, Held stressed that many positions were refined and updated, adding, “Those belong in the coalition contract now. That is what I expect from Claudia Müller.”
She provided specific examples of such measures, including free public transport for all individuals under the age of 27, achieving climate neutrality by 2035, and offering a €1,500 non-refundable job start bonus from the state for those who commit to staying in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Held stated that these are measures designed to actively improve the lives of young people and must now be enforced.
Held criticized the previous red-red regional government, stating that it managed climate issues poorly for years. The representative, who relocated to the northeastern state for her studies, emphasized that “the Greens must now ensure, with clarity and radicalism, that climate positions make it into the coalition agreement.”
Furthermore, Held criticized the campaign run by Minister-President Manuela Schwesig. While she acknowledged the campaign bolstered the Social Democratic Party (SPD), Held observed that it failed to diminish the AfD. According to her view, other parties were merely shifting their voter base to one another. She concluded by describing a general trend seen in current elections: “It is a dynamic where everyone tries to save their own ass, but nobody is saving democracy.”
