The Social Democrats (SPD) are urging the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) to approach its decisions with greater sensitivity and tact following the announcement that former CDU Union Group Leader Jens Spahn would withdraw from the Bundestag Budget Committee.
Dirk Wiese, the parliamentary operations manager, told the “Rheinische Post” on Tuesday that sometimes, particularly with decisions regarding appointments and other matters, it is beneficial to wait and “sleep on it for two nights.” Wiese added that the public has a keen sense of what is appropriate and what is not.
Spahn had previously informed the committee that he would no longer be a member. This move comes after he himself drew intense internal criticism for missing a meeting, which was further compounded by images showing him on vacation at the time.
