EV Subsidy Reaches 100,000 Households as Germany Boosts Green Transition and Shields Against Fuel Costs

Since May, the electric vehicle subsidy program managed by Federal Environment Minister Carsten Schneider (SPD) has provided financial support to 100,000 applicants. Schneider stated to the “Bild-Zeitung” (Monday edition) that the funding scheme has far exceeded its original expectations, helping 100,000 households shield themselves from soaring fuel prices. He added that every additional electric car sold boosts the country’s independence from expensive oil imports and global conflicts.

The minister emphasized the program’s success in targeting individuals who might previously have been unable to afford an EV. He noted that half of the applicants have an annual household income of up to €45,000, while three-quarters earn no more than €60,000.

Crucially, Schneider highlighted that the income-based scaling of the aid is proving effective. Overall, the program is supported by a total fund of three billion euros.
