German Service Sector Sales Rise Modestly in July, Driven by Real Estate and Consulting

According to preliminary figures from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the service sector in Germany (excluding financial and insurance services) experienced an increase in revenue in July 2026. When comparing this month to June 2026, reported real (price-adjusted) revenue rose by 0.7 percent, while nominal (unadjusted) revenue increased by 0.6 percent.

However, when looking at the same period last year, total revenue contracted year-over-year. Specifically, the real change compared to July 2025 was a decline of 0.9 percent, even though nominal revenue saw a substantial increase of 2.9 percent.

Examining the breakdown of performance, the housing and real estate sector registered the largest real growth against the previous month, posting a rise of 3.2 percent. This was followed by freelance, scientific, and technical services, which increased by 2.1 percent. In other economic services-such as the renting of movable goods and labor brokerage-the increase compared to June was 0.8 percent.

Per Destatis, performance varied across other segments. The transport and storage sector showed a modest rise of 0.1 percent. Conversely, the information and communication segment dropped by 0.9 percent in July 2026 compared to the preceding month.
