Double Homicide at Firearms Check in Bavaria; Suspect Arrested After Hours-Long Siege

In the hours following a shooting incident at the district office in Neumarkt, where two employees were shot during a weapons inspection, police special units stormed and apprehended the suspected perpetrator in Berngau during the night.

According to police reports issued in the morning, the raid took place around 2:20 a.m. The man arrested is a 60-year-old German national. Authorities have yet to release any information regarding the motive for the attack.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when two employees of the district office-a 54-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man-were conducting a routine check. This check included verifying whether the man was storing his weapons in compliance with regulations. Tragically, this procedure resulted in the deadly gunfire.

Initially, only the death of the male employee was reported, but the police later confirmed that the woman had also succumbed to her injuries. Following the shootings, the armed suspect barricaded himself in a residential house, leading to the police maintaining a large presence at the scene for several hours.
