Stuttgart Airport Shut Down After 24-Year-Old’s Bomb Threat

A large-scale operation by the Federal Police at Stuttgart Airport was triggered by a bomb threat made by a 24-year-old German national. The man informed a security employee in the security area that he had placed a bomb in his travel luggage, the Federal Police reported in the evening.

Consequently, flight traffic was suspended around 4:30 PM, and the entire security area was cleared. After the relevant areas were thoroughly searched, there were no signs of a threat. Police measures were concluded around 6:05 PM, the security area was reopened, and flight operations gradually resumed.

The operation caused an approximately one-and-a-half-hour disruption in the processing area. Due to the halt in flight operations, ten incoming aircraft had to be redirected to other airports.

The 24-year-old was removed from his flight bound for Hurghada. The regional police initiated an investigation against him for suspected disturbance of the public peace by threatening crimes. Following the conclusion of the police procedures, he was released.
