Borussia Dortmund and Werder Bremen ended their match in the fifth round of the 1. Bundesliga with a 2-2 draw. Dortmund held a two-goal lead late in the game, but Werdermanaged to score twice in the final minutes.
In the first half, Dortmund dominated possession and largely controlled the pace of the match. However, against Bremen’s compact defense, Dortmund initially struggled to find decisive breakthroughs in the attacking third. Marcel Sabitzer narrowly missed scoring from a free kick, while Maximilian Beier came close to scoring just before halftime, only to be denied by a strong save from Werder goalkeeper Karl Hein. The first half ended scoreless.
Dortmund’s efforts finally paid off late in the game. Daniel Svensson put BVB ahead 1-0 in the 80th minute following a quick counterattack through Serhou Guirassy. The ball moved via Fabio Silva to the Swedish player, who completed the goal from close range. Just five minutes later, Nico Schlotterbeck made it 2-0 in the 85th minute after Joey Veerman delivered a precisely headed corner.
However, Werder refused to surrender. Ludovit Reis scored the reply in the 88th minute, making the score 1-2. Finally, Niclas Füllkrug equalized in the second minute of added time. The Bremen attacker headed home unhindered after a cross from Marco Grüll.
