SC Paderborn 07 secured a 3-1 victory over TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in the final matchday of the fourth round of the Bundesliga.
The host team took the lead in the 29th minute when Santiago Castaneda scored. Following a corner kick, Paderborn midfielder Castaneda stayed in the opposition box after two balls went short. He then controlled the ball and launched a curling shot from approximately 17 meters on the half-left side. The shot was deflected unstopably towards keeper Oliver Baumann by Hoffenheim midfielder Leon Avdullahu.
Stefano Marino built on the advantage in the 42nd minute. After a long goal kick from Paderborn’s Nahuel Noll, team colleague Marvin Pieringer held up the ball on the right flank and passed it to Laurin Curda. Hoffenheim forward Koki Machida slipped around Curda and crossed low into the center, finding Marino, who slotted the ball into the near corner from five meters.
The visitors managed to pull one back in the 50th minute. Max Moerstedt was delivered a precise through ball into the Paderborn penalty area and laid the ball off with his outside foot to Adam Daghim. Daghim curled the shot from 14 meters, placing it decisively past Paderborn goalkeeper Noll.
However, Steffen Tigges reignited the home side’s dominance in the 69th minute. Following another Noll goal kick, the Ostwestfalen squad pressed deep into the opponent’s area. Jonah Sticker whipped a cross in from the left wing, which Tigges met with a header. He won the aerial duel against Hoffenheim defender Albian Hajdari, directing the ball into the left corner to restore the 3-1 lead.
The win propels Paderborn up to 12th place in the table, while Hoffenheim falls to 14th.
