CDU Youth Demands Bold Investment Strategy to Secure Germany’s Future

Pascal Reddig, the chairman of the Young Group within the CDU Union faction, has called for greater courage and substantive policy concepts from his party to help it overcome its current historical low point. Speaking to the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” ahead of the party youth’s “Deutschlandtag” in Bonn, the deputy federal chairman of the Young Union stated, “As a party and as the political center, we are in a deep crisis of trust.” He emphasized that their expectations are clear: “We have to deliver now and address structural questions.”

Reddig stressed that their political goals should not be focused merely on the next election cycle, but rather on preparing for the next generation. He urged that Germany must be modernized and restructured so that every young person is certain they have a good future here.

Central to this discussion are critical issues, including whether the tax system adequately rewards effort and performance, whether the social systems will remain functional in the future, and whether the national budget will allow enough room for investment in the coming decades. Reddig insisted that these questions must receive a positive answer by the end of the current legislative period.

He argued that the federal government needs the courage to enact necessary changes. Reddig reflected on the foundational elements of the Federal Republic, stating, “The Union has shaped and built this Federal Republic through groundbreaking fundamental decisions, even when they were not always popular, such as West integration, the social market economy, reunification, and Europe. We need that same spirit, that foresight, and that courage today.”

The Young Union will convene in Bonn this Friday through Sunday for its annual “Deutschlandtag.” Chancellor and CDU leader Friedrich Merz is also scheduled to attend the event on Saturday.
