Sahra Wagenknecht, founder of the BSW party, stated that the joint motion adopted by the AfD and BSW in the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament this Wednesday marks the end of the so-called “firewall.” Speaking to the news portal T-Online, Wagenknecht asserted, “The firewall has failed.” She added that the BSW is now embarking on a new course-what she termed the “Magdeburg path”-and intends to achieve this by developing politics through continually changing coalitions, thereby ensuring as many BSW positions are implemented as possible.
Wagenknecht further described the decision to adopt the motion as a “significant parliamentary success for the BSW.” She stressed that, for the first time in German parliament, a legislative body has expressed support for peace negotiations, an end to the escalations, and a complete halt to the “billion gift payments to Kyiv,” which she argues only prolong the terrible war and are financed by cuts to citizens in Germany.
Wagenknecht concluded by holding the current responsible Minister-President, Sven Schulze (CDU), accountable for implementing the decision and submitting it to the Federal Council. “Anything else would be a gross disregard for the state parliament and the will of the voters,” she warned.
