US Stock Markets Show Mixed Signals as Tech Values Rally Despite Economic Warnings

The US stock exchanges showed mixed results on Monday. By the end of trading in New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.1 percent, standing at 51,966 points. Conversely, the broader S&P 500 was up 0.4 percent, reaching approximately 7,690 points, and the technology-heavy Nasdaq 100 climbed 1.2 percent, hitting around 29,530 points.

With investors having recently reacted to a sell-off in technology stocks, they are now taking advantage of the lower prices to initiate buying. Earlier worries that rising interest rates might curb investments in expensive AI infrastructure-putting pressure on tech stocks and data center operators-have been a major concern. However, analysts caution that this market correction might not be over, advising that investors should pay close attention to the upcoming corporate earnings reports.

In international financial news, the European common currency strengthened slightly on Monday evening, with the euro trading at 1.1212 US dollars.

On the commodities front, the gold price weakened, falling 0.6 percent to $4,143 per fine ounce, equivalent to 118.81 euros per gram. Meanwhile, the price of oil dropped. Around 10 PM German time, a barrel of North Sea Brent crude cost $109.40, a decrease of 0.4 percent or 42 cents from the previous day’s close.
