German Stock Exchange Dips Amid Rising Global Uncertainty and Pressure Factors

The German DAX continued its downward trend on Monday, slipping further into negative territory following a weak start. As of approximately 12:30 PM, the leading German index was calculated at 25,300 points, representing a 1.3 percent drop compared to the previous trading day’s closing level. Among the top performers, Infineon, Qiagen, and Symrise led the course list, while Continental, Rheinmetall, and Airbus finished strong.

Andreas Lipkow, Chief Market Analyst at CMC Markets, noted that rising nervousness in international financial markets is now affecting the German stock market. He commented that while domestic German stocks had remained relatively resilient against the sell-off in the U.S. technology sector in recent days, this relative strength is now increasingly wavering.

The analyst explained that the pressures are becoming more numerous and serious. “Political and economic uncertainties in France and Indonesia, alongside the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, are increasing pressure on the markets,” Lipkow stated. He added that persistently high energy costs are also a factor, with the impact on inflation repeatedly becoming visible through new economic data. While investors may be able to ignore individual risks for a period, they cannot ignore them all simultaneously. Ultimately, a proliferation of diverse burdens is leading to a growing fundamental issue regarding risk appetite.
