German Post Announces Significant Fee Hike for Letters, Effective 2027

Deutsche Post announced that it intends to significantly raise its postage rates for private customers starting on January 1, 2027. The standard domestic letter in Germany will cost €1.15, an increase from the current price of 95 cents. This increase is subject to final approval by the Bundesnetzagentur (Federal Network Agency).

In addition to the domestic rate adjustments, other mailing products for private national correspondence will also see price increases, and Deutsche Post is raising the prices for specific business letters. Changes are also planned for international shipping; for example, the standard international letter will cost €1.45. These new letter rates will be valid for a period of two years. The foundation for these increases is the price hike potential of 20.35 percent for letters, which was recently suggested by the Bundesnetzagentur.

Regarding parcel prices for private customers scheduled for January 2027, the company stated it will provide updates at a later date. Meanwhile, business customers will be contacted individually in the coming weeks.
