The former climate activists of the “Neue Generation,” previously known as “Letzte Generation,” have announced their support for the student protests organized by the initiative “Gen Z regelt” on October 31st, according to the news magazine “Focus”. The movement confirmed that it would be represented at the demonstration in Berlin and would contribute a speech to the event, while also assisting with the organization of the action.
The spokesperson for “Neue Generation,” Theodor Schnarr, stated that the youth of the world have the absolute right to take to the streets. He asserted that they are facing a consuming ruin-a future incinerated by the greed of overrich individuals and their allies in parliaments and media offices. Schnarr specifically highlighted prominent figures such as Friedrich Merz and Katherina Reiche, accusing them of sacrificing the secure future of everyone and even democratic principles for their personal wealth. He summarized the growing crises facing society: war, democratic erosion, and, above all, the climate and diversity catastrophe. The youth, he argued, are asserting their right to life.
Schnarr continued by addressing the authorities’ response, which he claims has been a pattern of escalating hostility for many years. He noted that dedicated activists frequently faced defamation from various media outlets. He expressed hope that the coming student protests in Germany would bring about a positive change, ensuring that the protestors’ concerns are taken seriously and that efforts would focus on finding concrete solutions. He stressed that society is confronted with unprecedented challenges that must be tackled together.
As a movement, “Neue Generation” pushes for a particular path to resolution: the original democracy-a concept he calls “democratic lottery.” This system is described as a gathering format where people from all sectors of society meet on an equal footing, receive adequate information, and exchange perspectives to collectively find a balanced solution for everyone. This solution, he insists, would be free from partisan interests, avarice, or campaign pressures, allowing politics to become something that inspires confidence. He maintains that this democratic lottery is the key to the future.
“Neue Generation” is recognized as the successor movement to “Letzte Generation,” the climate protest group that became nationally known in Germany starting in 2022 due to its street blockades and instances of paint attacks.
