Thomas Röwekamp, the Chairman of the Bundestag Defense Committee and a member of the CDU, is urging European partners to provide greater support for Ukraine. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post”, Röwekamp emphasized that the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was a very important sign.
The CDU politician firmly stated that Germany remains dedicated to supporting Ukraine. He described the promised additional humanitarian aid before the coming winter as invaluable help for the people of Ukraine, especially considering the brutality of the attacks and the destruction.
However, he stressed that Ukraine requires continued assistance, particularly concerning air defense through missile systems. Röwekamp called for intensive lobbying within Europe and among friendly partners to quickly secure the delivery of Patriot missiles through a reciprocal exchange.
Furthermore, he explained that the planned financial support in 2027 is not merely unilateral aid; it serves as a defense against potential future Russian aggression directed against the democratic structures and the right to live in freedom. The committee chairman concluded by stating that a secure and sovereign Ukraine is in Germany’s immediate national security interest.
