Weimer Regrets Parts of Controversial Book

Ten Commandments of the New Bourgeoisie”.. In an interview with the Funke Media Group’s podcast, “Meine schwerste Entscheidung” Weimer stated he is “far from any form of ethnic thinking”. He addressed concerns regarding passages in the book that discuss a perceived decline in Europe, admitting they were “misleading” and that he would revise them for clarity if re-writing them today.

Acknowledging a pattern of occasional imprecise phrasing across his extensive body of work, Weimer conceded that numerous passages may have benefitted from greater explanation. He affirmed his commitment to value conservatism while describing himself as largely liberal in most current political matters.

Highlighting the importance of enlightenment, Weimer adopted a slogan – “Make Aufklärung Great Again” – to emphasize the current challenge of burgeoning authoritarianism, noting its manifestations across the political spectrum, from both left- and right-leaning ideologies. He pointed to examples in countries such as China and Russia, as well as concerning trends within Western nations, associating them with the rise of ne0nationalism.

Weimer underscored a critical juncture for Europe, posing the question: “Do we also incline towards authoritarianism, be it from the left or the right, or do we hold aloft the torch of enlightenment?” He concluded by reaffirming his support for the “Make Aufklärung Great Again” ethos.
