A prominent figure within the Green Party has publicly commended the foreign policy approach of CDU leader Friedrich Merz, particularly regarding the situation in Ukraine. Felix Banaszak, leader of the Greens, stated in interviews with RTL and ntv that Merz has issued signals he believes were occasionally lacking from the previous chancellorship under Olaf Scholz.
However, Banaszak expressed reservations about developments within domestic policy. He attributed the recent decline in asylum seeker numbers to measures implemented by the prior government, asserting that current policies are now reflecting the impact of those earlier decisions.
Criticisms were also directed toward Merz and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil. Banaszak argued that their actions are hindering Germany’s potential for a stronger recovery from the ongoing economic challenges. He emphasized a perceived absence of a comprehensive investment strategy, highlighting warnings from various economic research institutions that increased investment from designated funds could significantly boost economic growth.
