Following a summit of several EU interior ministers held on the Zugspitze mountain in Bavaria, Agnieszka Brugger, Deputy Parliamentary Group Chair of the Green Party, has strongly criticized the migration policies pursued by German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU). Brugger, in statements provided to the Funke-Mediengruppe newspapers, asserted that Dobrindt’s unilateral approach to migration policy within Europe has primarily resulted in detrimental consequences.
She specifically addressed the practice of rejecting asylum seekers at the German border, noting that this has strained relations with neighboring countries, including Poland. Brugger emphasized the urgent need for a change in direction, advocating for a comprehensive European strategy on migration. This strategy, she argued, should prioritize harmonized standards for accommodation and asylum procedures across all EU member states, alongside a fair distribution of migrants throughout Europe – objectives she believes should represent the Interior Minister’s primary focus.
Brugger characterized Dobrindt’s current policy as one of “harshness” predicting it will ultimately fail.
The “Zugspitze Summit” which convened the interior ministers of France, Poland, Austria, Denmark and the Czech Republic, alongside EU Commissioner Magnus Brunner, was reportedly aimed at achieving a “strengthening of European migration policy” as previously indicated by Dobrindt.
