Despite facing considerable criticism from within the Green Party, Jette Nietzard, co-chair of the Green Youth, maintains a strong connection to the parent organization. In an interview with “Der Spiegel”, Nietzard expressed her continued belief in the Green Party, emphasizing its traditionally left-leaning stance and the urgent need for climate protection initiatives.
Nietzard reaffirmed her conviction in the party’s foundational principles, adopted in 2020, although she acknowledged that their implementation has fallen short of expectations.
Looking ahead, Nietzard will soon announce whether she intends to seek re-election as co-chair of the Green Youth in October. While acknowledging her ability to generate public attention, she explicitly denied rumors of a potential shift towards the Berliner Abgeordnetenhaus (Berlin House of Representatives) in 2026, supported by the Left party. She stated she has no plans to enter parliamentary politics for at least the next ten years.
Nietzard attributed some of the widespread criticism she has received to her radical feminist views. She stated her approach differs significantly from seeking permission, remarking, “I don’t want to politely ask men if I can have some cake. I want to take more than half of it. That naturally makes me unpopular”.
