An evaluation conducted by the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland has revealed a significant increase in forced evictions across Germany during the past year. Data compiled from the Federal Ministry of Justice and regional authorities indicates at least 35,000 forced evictions occurred in 2024.
This figure represents an approximate seven percent rise compared to the 32,669 evictions recorded in 2023, according to the Federal Ministry of Justice. While evictions affected various properties, including commercial spaces like retail stores, the majority of cases involved private residences.
Illustrating this trend, data from the populous state of North Rhine-Westphalia demonstrated that of the 10,635 evictions in the region, 10,118 concerned private housing. The findings highlight a discernible increase in the number of individuals facing displacement due to legal proceedings related to housing.
