The AfD (Alternative for Germany) is considering taking legal action against the CDU (Christian Democratic Union) in connection with a specific brochure. Carsten Hütter, the AfD’s treasurer and executive board member, informed the news portal T-Online that they are currently reviewing whether pursuing legal proceedings is necessary. Hütter controversially suggested that the brochure represents the CDU’s last attempt to garner support because the party cannot compete with the AfD on a political level.
The CDU is offering the brochure through its online shop, where it can be requested free of charge in packages of 25. The brochure is titled “Decline for Germany. No Alternative” and its subtitle reads: “Anti-democratic. Antisemitic. Populist”. It is also expected to be displayed at the CDU’s party headquarters.
Originally, the “Neue Zürcher Zeitung” (NZZ) featured the brochure. According to the NZZ’s reporting, the publication alleges that the AfD aims to create “a one-party state, similar to the GDR or the National Socialism”. The report also highlighted that anti-Semitism is described as a “firm component” of the AfD, and that the party “commits openly to wanting to deport millions of citizens” with “remigration” identified as the “central code word” for this plan.
