AfD Maintains Record Polling Lead Amid Low Public Trust in Political Competence

According to a recent Forsa poll, there has been no change in the political polling leader in the past week. The AfD continues its impressive run in the weekly survey for the RTL and ntv broadcasters, leading with 28 percent, seven points ahead of the Union, which stands at 21 percent. The Greens maintain third place with 16 percent. The SPD ranks among the leading parties with 12 percent, tied with The Left. The Free Democratic Party (FDP) captured 4 percent of the vote. The proportion of non-voters and undecided people remains notably high at 29 percent, significantly exceeding the 17.9 percent recorded in the previous federal election.

Regarding political competence, the assessments remain largely stable. Thirteen percent of German citizens believe the AfD is most capable of solving the country’s problems, followed by 12 percent for the CDU and CSU. The Greens saw a slight increase of one percentage point to 7 percent. Both the SPD and The Left received 5 percent each, though The Left lost one percentage point. More than half of the populace-56 percent-do not trust any political party regarding its competence.

Satisfaction with the performance of CDU leader Friedrich Merz remains at a low point. As in the previous week, only 13 percent of citizens are satisfied with his work, while 85 percent are dissatisfied. Even among the supporters of the CDU and CSU, criticism dominates, with 56 percent dissatisfied with Merz’s work.
