Arrest Warrant Issued in Stade Six-Murder Case Following Deadly Facility Shooting

Following the deadly shootings that occurred in Stade, the District Court issued an arrest warrant late on Tuesday afternoon, at the request of the public prosecutor’s office. The prosecution has determined that the acts involve six counts of murder, citing signs of malicious intent, specifically treachery and base motives. The accused was subsequently transferred to a correctional facility.

The prosecutor explained that they have “urgent suspicion” that the suspect shot six individuals on Monday around noon inside a youth care facility located on Dankersstraße in Stade. According to the state prosecutor, during a planning meeting attended by several facility staff members and representatives from the Youth Welfare Office of the Hannover region, he suddenly fired a weapon he had brought with him to kill the staff. Five of the victims died at the scene, while the sixth victim succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

Regarding the two other women identified as suspects, the public prosecutor’s office did not request pre-trial detention. Both women have since been released from police custody.

The investigation remains ongoing. Following the detention decision, the police’s special organizational unit is transitioning the case to the murder commission. The public prosecutor’s office asked for the public’s understanding, noting that, for reasons related to investigative tactics, victim protection, and safeguarding the relatives, no further details can be released at this time.
