Audi and Volkswagen are initiating a worldwide recall affecting over 2.1 million vehicles. According to the ADAC, the recall is mandated due to a potentially faulty bolt connection within the steering gear. In the most severe scenarios, this defect could lead to steering failure.
The affected models include the Audi Q3, VW Golf, Golf Variant, Tiguan, Touran, and Caddy. The production periods vary by manufacturer: for Audi, the range is from October 31, 2017, to May 23, 2024, while for Volkswagen, it spans from September 24, 2013, to July 1, 2024.
In Germany alone, approximately 900,000 Volkswagen vehicles and over 58,000 Audi vehicles are involved. Globally, the figure for affected Audi vehicles alone nears 700,000.
Vehicle owners must take their cars to an authorized garage. The corrective action involves replacing the vulnerable bolt with one that is more resistant to corrosion. This servicing is provided free of charge to the vehicle owners. Currently, no damage to property or persons has been reported in connection with this defect, and the KBA is still investigating the recall situation.
