Belarusian Suspects Arrested in Bavaria for Alleged Moscow Plot and Romania Attacks

The Munich General State Prosecutor’s Office is investigating two Belarusian nationals suspected of planning an act of sabotage in the Nürnberg area. According to reports citing security circles, the suspects allegedly intended to set fires near both a railway line and a power transmission line.

The two men, aged 39 and 50, have been held in pre-trial detention since early October. Simultaneously, Romanian security authorities are also investigating the men, linking them to an arson attack on an industrial park in the city of Brașov on the night of September 14. This industrial park hosts an arms manufacturing company.

Intelligence gathered by Romania’s SRI suggests that the accused belong to a spy and sabotage network directed from Russia. The investigation on the German side is being managed by the Bavarian Central Authority for Combating Extremism and Terrorism (ZET), which operates under the General State Prosecutor’s Office. Information from the source indicates that the suspects are charged with espionage activities for sabotage purposes, as well as organizing and participating in an arson crime.

In connection with the Brașov attack, the men detained in Bavaria are also subject to European arrest warrants issued by a Romanian court. Furthermore, Romanian authorities reported that another man who was allegedly involved in the Brașov incident was arrested in Poland on Monday.
