Former Left party Bundestag faction leader Gregor Gysi defended Berlin’s peak candidate, Elif Eralp, following the publication of internal comments by “Der Spiegel”. Speaking to “Stern”, the deputy stated that Eralp is fully prepared to confront the risks and dangers of her office. The politician vowed that, as Governing Mayor, she would combat organized crime, violence, and the endorsement of violence using every permissible means to protect Berliners and their guests.
Gysi also criticized the magazine’s reporting, calling the “Spiegel”‘s approach “lowly, but not unexpected.”
Meanwhile, Steffen Krach, the Berlin SPD state leader and a top candidate, raised the pressure on the Left. Speaking to “Stern”, he insisted that any party wishing to govern the city must clearly define the dangers and protect Berlin from them. He asserted that criminal bosses or figures like Ibrahim Ibrahim should have no say in Berlin. Krach emphasized that Berlin’s security must be the highest priority, and this clarity should be expected from all political leaders.
