BMW Airlifts German Staff to Hungary for New Plant Training and Production Boost

The Munich-based automaker BMW is flying employees from its German facilities to Hungary to qualify the local workforce. According to reports by the “Handelsblatt”, citing company insiders, several machines depart weekly from locations in Munich and Leipzig for Debrecen, where numerous BMW employees are situated. Their mission is to train workers and assist in the startup of the new BMW plant in Hungary.

Regular flights are taking BMW staff from the Bavarian sites and Leipzig to Hungary. According to planners from Munich, Leipzig, and Debrecen airports, six such trips took place last week alone.

BMW has commented on the matter, clarifying that the temporary deployment of international employees is already part of the plan for ramping up new works and products. The company pursues two main objectives with this strategy: the qualification and empowerment of the local staff and the transfer of know-how back into the production network. The manufacturer advises that the intensity of these deployments varies depending on how developed the site is.
