Brantner Decries Protest Violence While Calling for Government Response to Youth Demands

Greens’ leader Franziska Brantner has condemned the riots that followed the youth protests in many German cities on Saturday. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post”, Brantner stated that she unequivocally rejects the violence wherever it took place, arguing that brutality undermines the legitimate concerns of those who chose to demonstrate peacefully.

At the same time, Brantner expressed strong support for the youth protests themselves. She praised the young people for taking to the streets to demand what they feel they need: a functional educational system, the ability to afford a decent life, and a national government that champions them instead of simply governing over them. According to Brantner, this message cannot be ignored.

She emphasized that the federal government must now react to these demonstrations. The Green politician concluded that those protesting deserve “answers, not excuses.”
