BSW co-chair Amira Mohamed Ali has demanded the resignation of Thuringia’s Minister-President, Mario Voigt (CDU). Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” (Friday edition), Mohamed Ali asserted, “A politician who has demonstrably plagiarized his doctoral thesis has forfeited all suitability for the office of Minister-President.”
Mohamed Ali also defended the pressure being applied by the federal board onto the Thuringian BSW local association and the governing “Brombeer coalition.” She argued that Thuringia, like other federal states where the two political blocs-the AfD and the established parties-are in opposition, requires a new governing model. According to the BSW leader, the state should be led by a Minister-President that is recognized across party lines, one who can govern based on facts with shifting majorities.
Commenting on the current coalition involving the CDU, SPD, and BSW, Mohamed Ali criticized the political direction, stating, “A BSW imprint is barely recognizable.” However, she clarified that her critique was not aimed at wanting a government led by the AfD or Björn Höcke, as she believes such leadership would not benefit the state, but rather impede its progress.
This Sunday, a special party meeting of the Thuringian BSW is scheduled to discuss its future within the current “Brombeer coalition.”
