BVB Locks Down Stability: Niko Kovac Signs Long-Term Deal to 2029 Following Strong Season Run

Borussia Dortmund, the club competing in the Bundesliga, has extended the contract of head coach Niko Kovac for the long term. The 54-year-old signed a new deal on Tuesday, committing his services until June 30, 2029. Alongside him, assistant coaches Robert Kovac and Filip Tapalovic will remain with BVB.

Lars Ricken, the sports director, commented on the decision, stating that the team has been on a very positive trajectory since Kovac took over his duties over eighteen months ago. Ricken praised Kovac for constantly developing the squad and enjoying high acceptance throughout the club. “The extension with Niko is also a clear sign of consistency and stability for Borussia Dortmund,” Ricken added.

Kovac and his coaching staff first took charge at BVB in the spring of 2025, ultimately securing Champions League qualification on the final day of the 2024/25 season. Furthermore, in the previous campaign, Kovac guided the club to the runner-up position. The 73 points secured during that season represent the fifth-best point haul in the club’s history.
