Max Verstappen secured a victory in the Singapore Formula 1 night race. The Red Bull driver crossed the finish line Sunday ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli, marking his maiden win at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Meanwhile, Antonelli successfully leveraged the race to extend his Formula World Championship lead to 102 points.
The race began with a compelling duel between Verstappen and Leclerc, with the Dutch driver successfully defending his pole position. In other notable performances, Nico Hülkenberg (Audi) delivered a strong showing, securing eighth place by maintaining position ahead of George Russell (Mercedes) until the end.
Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari), the only driver from the top six to start on Medium tires, struggled throughout the event, eventually settling for sixth place, behind the McLaren drivers.
The midfield saw intense battles for position. Red Bull driver Isack Hadjar overtook Alpine’s Pierre Gasly in the final laps, claiming the last point available for Red Bull. Russell fought hard in the standings but could not overcome Hülkenberg and accepted a ninth-place finish.
The race was punctuated by strategic pit stops and several incidents. Aston Martin pilot Lance Stroll had an unfortunate retirement, resulting in a virtual Safety Car deployment. Kimi Antonelli received a caution for exceeding track limits, though he successfully avoided a penalty. Despite some radio issues plaguing Verstappen, they did not detract from his winning run. The focus now shifts to the upcoming race in Austin, where the championship outcome is expected to be decided.
