Klaus Holetschek, the chairman of the CSU faction in Bavaria, stated that the stability of the nursing sector is being jeopardized by the electoral success of the AfD. Speaking at a “Politico” event in Berlin on Tuesday, his comments came shortly after Tobias Rausch, an AfD politician, was elected as the State Parliament President in Saxony-Anhalt.
Holetschek made a strong point about migration, saying, “If we didn’t have people with a migration background in our country, we could shut down the care sector.” He noted that one in three workers in nursing has a migration background, emphasizing that he made this statement deliberately on the same day an AfD politician was elected to a position of high public office.
He expressed particular concern regarding the debate surrounding the AfD’s proposed “Remigration.” This concept demands the mass repatriation of undocumented immigrants. The CSU politician added that if specialist staff become uncomfortable and decide to leave Germany, the sector could eventually “shut down,” stating this would impact Germany “massively.”
Separately, the federal cabinet approved a draft for a nursing reform last week. A commission is set to prepare further proposals for deeper structural reforms, which are scheduled to be implemented next year.
