Ahead of the Union parliamentary group’s discussion this Tuesday regarding the recent electoral setbacks faced by the CDU, Member of Parliament Tilman Kuban has called upon Chancellor Friedrich Merz to introduce a concrete relief plan for citizens. Kuban told the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” that people are experiencing rising expenses daily, noting that costs for fueling up, shopping, and heating continue to climb, while anxiety about job security is simultaneously increasing. Therefore, he stressed that the Chancellor must now present a clear strategy encompassing reforms and financial aid.
Kuban argued that structural changes are necessary to drive growth, alongside specific measures that would make a tangible difference to people’s wallets. He demanded several key actions: lowering energy prices, stabilizing ancillary labor costs, implementing a brake on bureaucracy, bringing CO₂ pricing up to the European standard, and reducing the value-added tax on staple foods to zero. The ultimate goal, he explained, is to provide both individuals and businesses with “some room to breathe.” Kuban concluded that this is the only way to prove that the federal government understands the challenges and is willing to alter its current policies.
