Classroom Jammers: Teachers Demand Tech Blockades to Fight AI Exam Cheating

The Bavarian Teachers’ Association is advocating for significantly stronger measures to combat the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in cheating during school examinations. According to association president Simone Fleischmann, a future approach could involve using signal jammers to interrupt data flow within classrooms, thereby preventing cheating through AI pins and other digital tricks.

Fleischmann submitted a letter to Bayern’s Culture Minister Anna Stolz (Free Voters), in which she urged the ministry to implement technically straightforward regulations, such as blocking internet data traffic, to sustainably curb AI-assisted cheating. Furthermore, the association mentioned the possibility of deploying sensor-based detectors that could identify when data traffic is occurring.

The association chief explained that cheating using AI during the Abitur examination is causing intense concern among educators. The specific danger lies in devices such as smart glasses-which feature cameras and internet connectivity-scanning pens, and dedicated AI pins, all of which offer students the ability to secretly research information during tests.
