Climate Change Alert: Experts Warn of Increased and More Extreme Weather in Europe

Climate researcher Stefan Rahmstorf anticipates that Europe will be particularly vulnerable to extreme weather events in the future. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post”, he stated that where warming is most intense, the extremes are also more severe. He added that the frequency of these events is increasing with global warming. Rahmstorf explained that extreme events that perhaps occurred every 500 years in the past might now happen every 50 years. He noted that we have not yet experienced the severe events resulting from the current global warming of 1.4 degrees, let alone those expected under even warmer climate conditions in the coming decades. When asked if these events will become even more extreme, his answer was a definitive yes.
