The coalition has decided not to pursue the plan for a so-called “relief bonus” of €1,000 after its failure in the Bundesrat. According to reports from participating circles, cited by “Rheinische Post” (Thursday edition), the coalition committee reached this agreement on Tuesday evening.
Furthermore, the text indicates that Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) will invite social partners to the Chancellery at the beginning of June for a dialogue concerning planned reforms. This was also agreed upon by the coalition committee.
Thus, the Union and the SPD plan to use another coalition committee before the summer break to reach a package of common decisions on current reform topics, including taxes, the labor market, pensions, and bureaucracy reduction, according to these sources.
