Following several demonstrations against digital violence directed at women in various German cities, actress and host Collien Fernandes expressed hope for substantial societal changes. The 44-year-old told newspapers from the Funke media group that she hopes this movement is more than just a momentary event. “Something is happening in the public sphere, so now people are going out onto the streets,” she stated, emphasizing that the issue must be taken seriously until genuine changes occur.
Fernandes described being shocked by the reaction of many men regarding her own case. “Currently, men have this insane fear of being falsely accused,” she explained. Furthermore, she noted that many men instinctively defended themselves by asserting, “that not all men are like this,” rather than engaging with the experiences of women. Many men also insulted feminist women, labeling them as “misandrists” because they refused to accept the alleged actions. “We are simply seeking justice,” Fernandes added.
In her advice to women affected by domestic or digital violence, Fernandes recommends seeking support through self-help groups or networking with other affected individuals. “Talk! Even if you don’t feel like you are being believed!” she urged. She suggests that speaking the truth is a vital first step. “You will see that you are not an isolated case. And you will realize that the patterns are surprisingly similar.”
