CONCACAF Rejects FIFA Investment Plans Amid Procedure Concerns, Shunning Boycott Threats

Concacaf, the football confederation for North and Central America, has rejected the investment plans put forward by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, following FIFA’s own refusal. The organization announced this on Thursday after holding a meeting of the presidents of its 41 member associations.

The core of the dispute lies in Infantino’s proposal, which includes plans to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors. Concacaf members expressed concerns regarding the lack of due process, the artificially short timeframe, and the absence of review or approval from the appropriate FIFA governing bodies. Furthermore, the necessity of engaging private investment was questioned, particularly considering the recent profitability of the World Cup.

However, unlike their European counterparts, Concacaf has stated that it is not threatening a boycott of all tournaments organized by the global governing body.
