Martin Huber, the General Secretary of the CSU, has leveled sharp criticism against AfD politicians attending the Petersburg Economic Forum hosted by Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. Huber told the newspapers of the Funke Media Group (Thursday edition) that the AfD’s trip to St. Petersburg once again confirms their open and dangerous affinity for Russia. He asserted that anyone who seeks closeness to Putin and his apparatus, and allows themselves to be instrumentalized by it, presents a clear security risk to Germany and Europe. Furthermore, Huber accused the AfD of betraying German interests, stating, “The AfD is playing on Putin’s team, and thus on the opposite side of peace and democracy”.
