Martin Huber, the General Secretary of the CSU, has strongly criticized the plan proposed by the Left Party, the Greens, and the SPD in Berlin. He described the parties’ plans for the socialization of apartments as a “ride through Absurdistan,” saying this to the news portal T-Online. Huber asserted that the Berlin left initially promises new homes and low rents through radical “socialist DDR concepts,” but eventually discovers the figures don’t add up, leaving the tenants to foot the bill. He concluded that this demonstrates once again that left-wing politics fundamentally fails and harms the public.
The proposal agreed upon by the Left Party, the Greens, and the SPD involves the socialization of the apartments held by large housing corporations, with an exception made for the first 10,000 residences. According to the plans, a maximum of 16 billion Euros is allocated for compensation related to this takeover. The financing strategy for this compensation involves taking out loans that will be repaid through rental income. Furthermore, the plans state that the average starting rent for the properties transferred to public ownership should not be higher than the average rent charged by the previous private property owner at the point of ownership transfer.
