Dax Holds Steady Amid Positive Sentiment Ahead of Earnings Season and Global Tensions

The main German index, the Dax, maintained its upward trajectory on Tuesday, remaining in positive territory throughout the trading day despite a strong opening. Approaching 12:30 PM, the benchmark index was calculated to be around 25,415 points, marking a 0.6 per cent gain over the previous day’s closing level.

Analyst Andreas Lipkow, lead market analyst at CMC Markets, noted that while European Union retail sales only increased by a modest 0.1 per cent-falling short of analyst expectations of 0.3 per cent-the data still suggests a continuation of the recovery trend in consumer spending. He added that although energy price adjustments are somewhat dampening this momentum, the overall trend remains positive.

Lipkow highlighted that investors are currently focusing on two major elements: the continued high returns offered by long-term government bonds, and the volatile situation in the Middle East, which directly influences energy prices, inflation, and consumer behavior.

Looking ahead, the start of the corporate earnings season is set to put analyst expectations to the test, potentially triggering some stock price corrections. This week, the quarterly results from companies like PepsiCo and Delta Airlines are drawing considerable attention. Moreover, the preliminary data from TSMC is expected to have a notable impact on the technology sector. However, Lipkow tempered expectations for Tuesday, suggesting the trading day would remain somewhat calm due to a lack of significant driving impulses.

In other markets, the European Community currency strengthened on Tuesday afternoon, trading at 1.1245 US dollars per Euro, while the Dollar was valued at 0.8893 Euros.

The gold price posted gains, rising to $4,152 per troy ounce in the afternoon (a 0.3 per cent increase), which equates to €118.71 per gram. In contrast, crude oil prices fell significantly. The West North Sea Brent type barrel was priced at $98.42 by 12 PM Central European Time on Tuesday-a decrease of 1.9 per cent (190 cents) from the closing price of the previous trading day.
