Dax Holds Strong Below 26,000 Amid Bond Pressure and Inflation Concerns

The DAX edged sideways in red on Wednesday afternoon, following a sluggish start to the trading day. Around 12:30 PM, the index stood at approximately 26,120 points, reflecting a decline of 0.1 percent compared to the previous trading session. Key performers on the index included Volkswagen, Daimler Truck, and Heidelberg Materials, while trading at the bottom were Infineon, Münchener Rück, and Zalando.

Jochen Stanzl, Chief Market Analyst at Consorsbank, commented that the global stock market is being pressured by bond markets, and the DAX is not exempt. He noted that while inflation concerns and high government debt are not new issues, they are weighing heavily in the short term because the thirty-year yields in Germany crossed the critical 3.7 percent threshold three days ago, leading to continuous yield increases since then.

Meanwhile, the European common currency strengthened on Wednesday afternoon. The euro cost 1.1610 US dollars, meaning a dollar was trading for 0.8613 euros.

In other markets, the price of oil increased. At around 12:00 Central European Time, a barrel of Brent crude from the North Sea was priced at 91.93 US dollars, which was an increase of 91 cents, or 1.0 percent, from the close of the previous day.
