Dax Shatters Records and Soars into Weekend Highs Ahead of Holiday Boost

As the trading week concluded, the DAX posted another gain and set new records. At the close of trading on Xetra, the index stood at 25,779.31 points on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange floor, marking a 0.8 per cent increase from the previous day and establishing the highest DAX closing value ever. During the trading session, the absolute all-time high was reached at 5:16 PM, at exactly 25,826.78 points.

The German leading index was not affected by the US markets, which were closed for Independence Day. Among the heavily traded stocks in the DAX, Eon was particularly sought after, rising over four per cent just before the market closed. Additionally, Daimler Truck, Hochtief, Siemens, and Gea all finished with gains exceeding two per cent.

In the currency market, the Euro strengthened slightly on Friday afternoon; one Euro cost 1.1441 US Dollars, meaning a Dollar could be bought for 0.8740 Euros.

The price of gold also benefited significantly, with a fine ounce trading at $4,168 on Friday afternoon, an increase of 1.2 per cent. This equated to a price of 117.12 Euros per gram.

Conversely, the oil price remained relatively stable. At around 5 PM German time on Friday, a barrel of North Sea Brent crude cost $71.83, an increase of three cents from the previous day’s closing price.
