On Thursday, the Dax continued to decline through midday, following a weak start. At approximately 9:30 AM, the leading index was calculated at around 25,960 points, placing it 0.5 percent below the closing level of the previous day. Qiagen, Continental, and Symrise led the performance, while Brenntag, Merck, and BASF were among the bottom performers.
Jochen Stanzl, Chief Market Analyst at Consorsbank, commented that investors are viewing the rapid turnaround in the American bond market with mixed feelings. He noted, “General sentiment is improving, but while yields in the US are falling, they remain high here in Germany.” Stanzl explained that the increases in gold and crypto prices the previous day suggest that investors are looking for alternatives to the US dollar and are increasingly approaching Washington’s political activity with skepticism.
Meanwhile, the European common currency strengthened slightly on Thursday afternoon. The Euro cost 1.1709 US dollars, meaning that the dollar was available for 0.8540 Euros.
The oil price saw an increase as well. Around noon Central European Time, a barrel of North Sea Brent crude cost 94.07 US dollars, which represented a 2.7 percent gain compared to the close of the previous trading day.
